Michelle’s Testimonial
My name is Michelle and I have always prided myself on giving my children great beginnings. My third child Raquel struggled with learning disabilities. I first applied for an Individual Education Plan for Raquel when she was in the first grade, but the school district claimed she fell into a “gray area” and was reluctant to provide her with the help she so desperately needed. Raquel was in the third grade, and way behind the other children in her class, by the time my persistence and many visits to specialists finally convinced the school district she qualified for special education support. Even then, the district’s opinion was that Raquel would remain stuck at a pre-primmer level and that she had no ability to learn. But I knew that could not be true. I knew that if I could just give my daughter the gift of reading she would always be able to take care of herself.
After exploring many private schools and learning centers I found the Active Reading Clinic. They took the time to test Raquel, help me understand what her needs were, and how they would be able to help. We attended the Clinic through many school years and summer sessions. It took a while for Raquel to catch up, but she loved her teachers and going to the Clinic gave her a great sense of accomplishment. She is now a junior in High School and a strong reader at grade level. She did it! The Active Reading Clinic gave my daughter the gift I so wanted for her – the gift of reading!
I am a proud supporter of the Active Reading Clinic and I serve on its Board Of Directors. I hope to always stay active in the quest to help all young people share in the gift of reading.
